An owner, trainer and horse lie dead after winning the Kalian Derby. When law enforcement fails him, horseman Adam Blakely goes undercover to search for his father’s killer. He is convinced Maggie either is the killer or knows who did it and why.

Maggie McGregor leaves the tumultuous world of horse racing determined to never train again until a handsome boarder moves his horse into her father’s barn. And that’s when the accidents begin.

Maggie and Adam find themselves drowning in an ocean of deception and lies. They need to uncover an insurance scam so insidious it could rock the foundations of an established horse racing empire and bring the killer too close to home.

IN THE ARMS OF THE ENEMY is dedicated to those horses lost to man’s greed and inhumanity, and to those humanitarians who make it their mission to save and protect them.

REVIEWS:

IN THE ARMS OF THE ENEMY

One way I decide on a book to read is: the book cover, the blurb, and the book’s reviews. Here are a few for IN THE ARMS OF THE ENEMY

REVIEW

Review magazine “Affaire de Coeur” says, “With a strong mystery and a sizzling romance, Ms. Guthrie captivates readers from the start. This is an enjoyable thriller with a plot that will keep you guessing until the climactic end.”
Affaire de Coeur gives In the Arms of the Enemy” *****

Amazon Reader, The Professor:

In the Arms of the Enemy” by Patricia A. Guthrie grabbed my attention because of the horses and racing. I am a great fan of Dick Francis and wondered how Ms. Guthrie would fare in the comparison. I need not have worried. The opening is explosive, clutching both heart and brain before even a few pages are read. Here is a writer in control of her craft, and she seizes the reader’s emotion right from line one. Great writing; great characterization; and all effortless…

C. Sykes5.0 out of 5 stars Having spent a good part of my life around horsesReviewed in the United States on June 25, 2018Verified PurchaseHaving spent a good part of my life around horses, both racing, and, an show, this book really resonated with me. Sadly, the main plot, involving the, the death and insurance scams, due to criminal acts, against such a loving animal can become true to life in the real world. The Author did an amazing job on, bringing to the forefront, the dark side of a troubled mind, as shown in the character, Erica. I felt a lot of emotions while reading this, Novel. It served as a reminder of the love, and devotion, that I received from my horses. Although the love between, Adam, and, Maggie was some times a slow burn, the Author, managed to keep you riding the waves right along with them. Not to give too much away, but, I love a happy ending. All in all, this was sweet story, with just the right amount of twist and turns to keep the reading turning those pages. I highly recommend, In the Arms of the Enemy.Helpful

Report abuseD.L. Finn4.0 out of 5 stars A fun romance story with deception, mystery and horses!Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2017Verified Purchase“In the Arms of the Enemy” has romance and a murder to solve. I immediately liked the main character, Maggie, who is a horse trainer. She finds herself in circumstances beyond her control, with deception, mystery, and love. The setting on a ranch gives so much depth to the story. I loved the horse theme and love interest, “Adam”, who attempts to hide who he is. Not only was it a fun romance, but the detective work and horse training made it a page turner–and quick read. This is for not only romance readers, but horse lovers, and those who like a good old-fashioned mystery.HelpfulReport abuseHarriet W. Hodgson5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling PlotReviewed in the United States on August 22, 2021Verified PurchaseI read the Kindle version of this book and liked the characters, plot, and horse racing details. The dialog was also natural. For a while, I was transported to another place and life–two things I needed. Just wish the book had been longer. Maybe the author will write a sequel. I hope so.HelpfulReport abuse

Andrea4.0 out of 5 stars UnderstatedReviewed in the United States on December 27, 2012Verified PurchaseIt was a wonderful book and a great read!

The attempts of the Adam was amusing and a bit frustrating the way he was so bad at keeping one identity.

The main character was interesting and funny alsoand just those two are what makes the book cute and fun. The mystery revolving the horses and their trainers was a bit obvious but the other, more major part wasnt it so i like that. (Im trying not to give everything away!)I would definitely recommend this to a friend!2 people found this helpfulHelpfulReport abuse

M. R. of WI3.0 out of 5 stars Good short bookReviewed in the United States on January 2, 2013Verified PurchaseIf you like short romances with a suspense twist, it’s a good book. The only downfall was sometimes the chapters ran together making it seem like the book was in fast forward. I did enjoy reading the book. One person found this helpfulHelpfulReport abuse
